The Green Star fitout designed and constructed by Intermain for WWF Australia was an opportunity for the NGO to continue its work in conservation and sustainable development throughout the region within its new Sydney headquarters.

Reducing its operational and ecological footprint, enhancing workplace culture and introducing Biophilic design were central to WWF Australia's contribution to a more sustainable built environment.

Simple things were wanted like being able to open windows and establish a closer connection to the outside world, as well as natural light and airflow.

The office is designed so that breakout areas – the kitchen, cafe and library – are closely connected to the outside. While in the basement, 17 bike racks are allocated to encourage and support cycling to work. As the fit-out was in a new location for WWF and close to transport so as to minimise driving to work,  Intermain made sure there were end-trip facilities included such as lockers and showers.

The brief also called for 'dematerialisation’ – requiring less material than conventional design – and embracing the approach of reduce, re-use and recycle. A lot of thought went into working recycled pieces and materials into dedicated work spaces and balancing the limitations of availability to create vibrant spaces.
