This CPD presentation will explain the relationship between project design, materials specifications and environmental sustainability outcomes, with a specific focus on timber and its properties as a renewable material that sequesters carbon emissions. It will also provide information on how to screen timber products for credible third-party verification of suitability and compliance with green rating tools.

 
By the end of this session, you should understand:
 
  • How design response incorporates assessment of the physical location and relevant wider regional, contextual and environmental issues
  • The evaluation of design options against the values of physical, environmental and cultural contexts
  • The coordination and integration of appropriate environmental systems, including for thermal comfort, lighting and acoustics
  • The application of creative imagination and aesthetic judgement in producing a resolved project design in regard to site planning, physical composition and spatial planning as appropriate to the project brief.
