A new public park spanning nearly one hectare opened last week in Norwest, offering residents in the Hills Shire a significant boost in green space as Sydney’s north-western corridor continues to grow.
The $4.8 million Irongum Terrace Reserve, delivered by Sekisui House Australia under its SHAWOOD brand, includes landscaped gardens, a modern playground, and sustainable stormwater infrastructure. The project marks a major milestone in the Japanese-backed developer’s broader Asora Norwest Masterplan, a long-term strategy to reshape the area with new housing and public amenities.
“This is more than a park—it’s a promise to build sustainable, connected communities,” says Hironobu Seto, group CEO and managing director of Sekisui House Australia. “It reflects our core values and long-standing partnership with local authorities.”
The reserve was developed under a Voluntary Planning Agreement with The Hills Shire Council, incorporating native landscaping and stormwater systems designed to filter runoff naturally. More than 30 mature trees were retained on site, and a detention system was installed below ground to help manage heavy rainfall.
Mayor Michelle Byrne of The Hills Shire welcomed the addition. “It’s wonderful to see the fences come down so Hills residents can enjoy this fantastic new space,” she says.
The debut of the reserve coincides with the completion of SHAWOOD’s first four homes in the area. Twenty additional lots are set to be released later this year.
As Sydney’s Hills District prepares for a projected population surge of nearly 70% by 2046, developers like Sekisui House are leaning into the demand for both premium housing and public space. The Asora Norwest site, situated near transport links, schools and retail, is being positioned as a highly connected, family-friendly enclave.
SHAWOOD is also advancing other developments in Box Hill, Melonba, and Castle Hill, while its multi-stage Orchards Norwest community continues to take shape. The next phase, Veue Parkside, is now on the market.
Sekisui House, a four-star iCIRT-rated builder, is among several firms pivoting toward more master planned communities with an emphasis on sustainability and liveability—trends that are increasingly central to suburban growth across Greater Sydney.
