Studio 505 has designed a striking façade as part of the $100 million redevelopment of Brisbane’s Wintergarden Shopping Centre.

Designs involve encasing the centre’s three street frontages in a laser-cut stainless steel screen with integrated and programmed LED lighting. Interiors have been designed by The Buchan Group.

The property, which is owned by Industry Superannuation Property Trust (ISPT), will undergo a redevelopment of approximately 13,500sqm of retail space over the Level 1, Ground and Lower Ground floors.

“The major CBD retail precincts in Australia are undergoing a change in shape, with retailers increasingly taking larger footprints and major international brands showing renewed levels of interest in prime retail sites than ever before,” ISPT’s fund manager, Mark Bassett, said.

The Wintergarden will be a “truly iconic offering” for Brisbane, he said.

The centre was last refurbished more than 25 years ago, in 1984.

The major redevelopment of Wintergarden Shopping Centre will be completed in two stages. Stage One will commence in January 2010 and is scheduled to open for Christmas 2010, while Stage Two will commence in early 2011 and open in early 2012.
