Plans for Bradfield City Centre’s Central Park have now been approved, with the proposed development representing a critical piece of social infrastructure in Australia’s first new city in 100 years.

Spread across two hectares, the park is set to open along with the Bradfield Metro Station, and will provide a green, open, welcoming space for workers, residents, and visitors. It is an important new resource for the growth of the Aerotropolis and joins other notable Western Sydney parks in providing important amenity for residents and businesses.

This follows significant progress in Bradfield City Centre’s development, with the approval of the Bradfield City Centre Master Plan in 2024 and the recent opening of the First Building, housing Stage 1 of the Advanced Manufacturing Readiness Facility (AMRF).

The $1 billion+ investment in Bradfield City Centre by the NSW Government will provide the early commercial buildings, infrastructure, and services needed to unlock billions in private development that will create more than 10,000 new homes and 20,000 new jobs.

Representing a collaboration between landscape architect firm ASPECT Studios and Traditional Custodians, Central Park will be created over the station box of the new metro station on the Western Sydney Airport line now under construction.

Designed with Country at its core, Central Park showcases the rich cultural heritage of the Dharug people. More than 550 mature trees and 70,000 species of native plants will create a green oasis with public art, active learning, and gathering spaces. The park will also feature an iconic Sky Ring installation celebrating Sky Country, while providing shelter, directing rainwater, and supporting misting water technology systems, alongside a multi-generational play area and a Gathering Green for major community events.

A national design excellence competition helped determine the design of Central Park, with the esteemed jury led by NSW Government Architect Abbie Galvin.

“Iconic cities need iconic open spaces, and Bradfield’s Central Park will create a new green anchor for Australia’s first new city in 100 years,” Bradfield Development Authority CEO Ken Morrison says.

“In the future thousands of people will pour out of the metro station directly into Central Park, which will become a gathering spot for people to live, work, and play for generations to come.”

The proposed project will now move to the next stage of development with the appointment of a construction partner to deliver the park.
