It has recently been reported in the Melbourne and Brisbane media that Plexicushion is now the surface of the Australian Open Series and the national surface of choice for Tennis Australia.

WM Loud will replace Rebound Ace as the new supplier of the surface for the next five years.

Sports Surfaces is WM Loud's agent in WA and it is their brand of cushioned acrylic surface which will be laid at Melbourne Park, Albert Reserve and other Australian Open Series events in 2008.

The new Plexicushion surface will retain less heat during days of extreme temperature and will involve applying multiple layers of rubber-filled resin to the base to achieve a consistent result in both bounce and pace.

Tennis Australia CEO Steve Wood said that this announcement was an exciting one for the sport and comes at a time when the Tennis Australia Board has approved a multi-million dollar Court Rebate Scheme to proactively stimulate court growth around the country.
