Several specialist bathroom products from Pressalit were installed at the Blueberry Court Fuchu in Japan to keep residents safe, secure and comfortable.

An assisted living facility and day care centre run by Abilities Care-net, Inc., Japan, Blueberry Court Fuchu offers assisted accommodation to elderly residents with physical disabilities and/or mental health problems. Open since August 2011, the facility provides individual dwellings, meals and care services for up to 40 residents. Each resident enjoys the privacy of a personal room en-suite with an individually designated bathroom.

Key challenges included providing suitable toilet and shower room facilities catering to the needs of residents with varying degrees of dependency and a variety of medical conditions; optimising the usage of the limited floor space available; and identifying a suitable and safe replacement for the traditional Japanese bath tub.

Pressalit products installed in the bathrooms at the facility included R3146 height adjustable support arms, 600mm; RT102 handrails, 600mm; RF018 fixed height support arms, 850mm; and RT331 handrail sections, 652mm.

These products allow all the residents to remain perfectly safe in their bathrooms, be it in the comfortable shower rooms featuring a sturdy shower rail/grab rail angle combination, or the toilet, featuring a horizontal wall track to which a foldable, vertically adjustable support arm may be easily added to suit the physical ability of the user.
