The Furniture Design Association promotes furniture design through initiatives and policies

In 1995 in Tasmania, a group of furniture designers and design makers started the Furniture Designers Association (FDA). Their aim was to develop and promote excellence in the practise of furniture design. Professionals, staff and graduates from the furniture design program at the University of Tasmania are all members, along with others who are involved in retail and other associated fields.

To achieve their aim, the FDA decided to put some policies and initiatives in place. Public awareness, advocacy and political lobbying were all addressed. Furniture designers were given greater opportunities to work and progress within the industry. Co-operation and communication between designers was also looked at by the association. Professionalism and innovation too were also addressed.

Members of the FDA are provided with a network and information service and exhibitions allowed for the marketing of key products and design services.
