Wideline windows harmonise old and new at Grove Church renovation

Builder Cash McInnes Projects specified Wideline windows and glazing systems to ensure a consistent aesthetic during the renovation of the Grove Church in the St George region of Sydney.

The $1.3 million renovation at Landsdowne St, Hurstville Grove was necessitated by the need to bring the old building up to 21st century standards. Key design objectives such as improving accessibility and safety, as well as making the space more versatile for its many uses throughout the week, would substantially enhance parish life at St Aidan’s Anglican.

The brief from the client, Anglican Church Property Trust Diocese of Sydney, sought to create a thoughtfully designed environment where the extension and refurbishment would connect harmoniously with existing fixtures.

Working with the builder, Wideline chose a more contemporary style of obscure glass for replacement windows in the cathedral area – LuminaMist being the most sympathetic to the existing glazing. Translucent laminated glass not only provides privacy and draws in a divine infused natural light but also works to conserve energy within a building by reducing solar heat gain.

Through a sympathetic design engineering process that adapted traditional outer frames with the latest materials and technology, Wideline devised a window schedule that harmonised the old with the new.

The renovation was completed in June 2020.

Wideline products specified for the Grove Church renovation included Paragon range double hung windows, rake and fixlite windows, hinged entry door with sidelites; and Ascend40 range awning windows in Dulux Black Satin finish.
