Alspec window and door framing meets builder’s brief for public school in Sydney’s Hills District
A pivotal aspect of the project’s success relied on incorporating windows and doors that would flood the building with natural light and air. The builders enlisted the help of local fabricator CVD Commercial Glass who chose Alspec’s window and door framing systems to fulfil the project’s requirements for quality, flexibility, safety, and durability.
The Samuel Gilbert Public School project encompassed the construction of a state-of-the-art three-storey establishment featuring modern learning spaces, a library, administration facilities, a new hall, and the enhancement and repurposing of existing structures. The primary objective was to craft accessible, functional, and enjoyable learning environments.

A pivotal aspect of the project’s success relied on incorporating windows and doors that would flood the building with natural light and air. Hutchinson Builders enlisted the help of local fabricator CVD Commercial Glass who chose Alspec’s window and door framing systems to fulfil the project’s requirements for quality, flexibility, safety, and durability.

Collaborating closely with Alspec, CVD combined ProGlide high-performance sliding doors with McArthur Evo 150mm centre pocket framing. This innovative approach allowed for the integration of hinged Swan Evo 45mm commercial doors, satisfying the necessary fire egress component. Notably, all sliding and hinged doors were designed with mid-rail transoms, serving as visual safety indicators.
A striking architectural feature of the building comprised a series of pop-out window boxes, strategically designed to immerse students in the surrounding tree canopy. CVD custom-made these window boxes on-site, adding to the project’s uniqueness.

To promote natural cross-ventilation and maximise the flow of fresh air, Breezway power louvres were installed. Invisi-Gard stainless steel security screens were also used to protect students against falls and to meet the required BAL40 rating.

Meanwhile, glazed walls and doors were used to create distinct spaces and partitions.
The result is a stunning building that ticks all the boxes when it comes to inspiring the young minds of the future.
