Bikesafe bikeway barriers ensure safety and accessibility on shared path in Melbourne’s Brimbank Park

Brimbank Park has been an essential communal space for the North-Western Melbourne community since 1976, offering a welcoming area for locals to connect with nature within an urban setting.

As part of the Victorian Government’s $21 million Urban Parks Active Wellbeing Program, Brimbank Park, along with 20 other parks across Melbourne, received upgrades that have enhanced the space, providing the community with a better environment to come together, enjoy the outdoors, and improve their health and wellbeing.

In partnership with Parks Victoria, Moddex contributed to the upgrades at Brimbank Park by supplying and installing over 250 lineal metres of our Bikesafe bikeway barriers, ensuring the safety and accessibility of a shared user path designed for both pedestrians and cyclists.

Moddex's design process prevents potential site issues before they arise

The shared path was not a simple design and installation due to its winding nature, uneven terrain, and the complexity of the barrier being required to be installed inground.

To address these challenges, Moddex’s design process was critical in ensuring that potential site problems were identified and addressed early on. The design process, exclusive to Moddex, involved creating design intent drawings that were reviewed by both the Moddex Project Manager and Parks Victoria. This review ensured that the measurements aligned with actual site conditions and that all compliance requirements were met. This careful attention to detail in the early stages helped prevent potential costly errors during installation.

In many projects, mistakes during the design stage can lead to functional or aesthetic issues, requiring significant rework. However, by ensuring all stakeholders collaborated closely and reviewed the design thoroughly, we were able to avoid complications, and provide a functional and compliant solution for Parks Victoria.

It is significantly easier and less expensive to make adjustments early on in the process, rather than correcting mistakes later when components have already been manufactured and installed.
