Major tech upgrades at Wesbeam enhance manufacturing efficiency and innovation
Wesbeam celebrates the successful completion of two major technology upgrades – the Composer and Dryer Analyser – as part of our ongoing investment in manufacturing efficiency and innovation.
Wesbeam celebrates the successful completion of two major technology upgrades – the Composer and Dryer Analyser – as part of our ongoing investment in manufacturing efficiency and innovation.
Supported by the Federal Government’s Accelerate Adoption of Wood Processing Innovation Program, these advancements reinforce our commitment to delivering high-quality Laminated Veneer Lumber (LVL) products while enhancing Australia’s wood supply resilience.
Composer: Automation driving efficiency
Completed in July 2024, the Composer upgrade has transformed veneer recovery through cutting-edge automation. With the integration of automated defect detection, precision clipping, and advanced grading systems, we have achieved a 15% increase in veneer recovery. This enhancement optimises material utilisation, reducing waste while improving production speed and consistency.
Dryer Analyser: A revolution in veneer grading
In January 2025, we completed the second stage of our investment with the Dryer Analyser upgrade. This state-of-the-art moisture and density analysis system now allows us to grade veneer more accurately than ever before. The new moisture analyser reads deep into each sheet, ensuring structural grading is more precise, while enhanced camera and lighting systems detect and classify defects with greater accuracy.
Through the integration of moisture, density, and strength data, we have streamlined the grading process, reduced manual monitoring and increased efficiency. The result? Higher veneer recovery rates, improved product quality, and a more robust supply chain for the Australian building industry.
Strengthening Australia’s wood supply chain
These milestones are a testament to our continued investment in cutting-edge wood processing technology. By improving material efficiency and streamlining grading processes, Wesbeam remains at the forefront of sustainable and high-quality LVL production.
We extend our gratitude to the Federal Government and the Minister for Agriculture and Forestry for their invaluable support. This investment is a crucial step in reinforcing Australia’s capability to meet building demands efficiently and sustainably.
