Public Building

Public buildings are shedding their singular purpose and transforming into vibrant hubs for healthcare, transportation, leisure, and community. This evolution demands innovative design approaches that prioritise functionality, user experience, and environmental responsibility.

The Public Building category at the 2024 Sustainability Awards is a testament to this growing trend. Established as a standalone category last year, it returns with a renewed focus on showcasing sustainable public structures – from hospitals and museums to government buildings.

The construction industry is actively working to minimise its carbon footprint, and public buildings have the potential to spearhead this change. Architects and designers hold the key to crafting sustainable spaces that inspire users to make environmentally conscious choices.

The current champion, Pimpama Sports Hub by Liquid Blue, stands as a shining example. This Australian first – a 100 percent energy self-sufficient sports and community precinct – sets a new standard for sustainability in leisure facilities.

Located on Queensland's Northern Gold Coast, Pimpama Sports Hub is a sprawling 14-hectare complex designed to foster healthy living and community spirit within a rapidly growing suburban area. Its welcoming design caters to a diverse range of residents and visitors with varying needs and interests.

Siniat, a prominent player in plasterboard and framing solutions, is a proud returning partner of the Public Building category. A champion of sustainable development, Siniat offers an industry-first carbon neutral opt-in program and eco-friendly products that empower clients to reduce their carbon footprint and achieve Green Star certifications.

The quest for the next sustainability champion continues! The winner of the Public Building category will be unveiled at the upcoming Sustainability Awards Gala held in Sydney. If you have a project exemplifying sustainable design in the public realm, visit sustainablebuildingawards.com to submit your entry.
