Knauf Stratopanel: A step forward in sustainable design

In modern sustainable architecture and design, innovation is important for developing healthy, eco-friendly spaces. Knauf’s Stratopanel acoustic plasterboard with Cleaneo® technology is one such innovation. Stratopanel is a gypsum plasterboard designed with air-purifying features. Made from a combination of low-embodied energy, non-toxic natural gypsum, and liner paper, Stratopanel has been tested to meet Green Star specification limits for VOCs and formaldehyde. This product aims to improve indoor air quality while addressing noise pollution.

Enhancing indoor air quality

Buildings worldwide are moving towards greater airtightness to conserve energy, making heating and cooling more efficient. However, this reduces natural ventilation, making high-quality indoor air essential. Materials like paints, cleaning products, and adhesives release volatile organic compounds (VOCs), which have been associated with health issues. In response to this, Knauf has incorporated Cleaneo® technology into its Stratopanel perforated acoustic plasterboard range.

Cleaneo® technology functions to purify the air by reducing the concentration of harmful volatile compounds such as alcohol, aldehydes, ketones, and esters, which are common emissions from cleaning agents and care products. Independent laboratory testing at the Fraunhofer Institute for Building Physics in Germany has validated the effectiveness of Cleaneo® products in improving indoor air quality over time. Additionally, no special maintenance is required, and Stratopanel can be painted without affecting the performance.

Efficiency and attention to detail

Knauf has designed Stratopanel to support a smooth and efficient installation process. The UFF edge profile, found in the Stratopanel Standard Perforation range, ensures straight installation with perfectly aligned perforations. This simplifies the installation and results in a seamless finish.

Key installation features include:

• Pre-primed edges for a consistent, high-quality finish.
• Red and blue edge markings to assist with alignment.
• The ability to rotate cut sheets to minimise wastage.
• The use of Uniflott compound for a seamless joint appearance.
• The option to leave the UFF joint unfilled for an express joint look.

Acoustic performance

Stratopanel offers design flexibility and ease of installation, paired with strong acoustic performance.

With a Noise Reduction Coefficient (NRC) value of up to 0.9, Stratopanel has been extensively tested to confirm its acoustic performance. The ceiling system reduces noise reverberation, and performance can be tailored further by adjusting ceiling cavity depth and insulation type.
