Boral has launched its 2010 conceptual residential design award program for architects, building designers and architectural students.

The Boral Design Award this year invites entrants to respond to the challenge of Australia’s changing housing needs and reduced land sizes.

The brief for the awards is to design a detached residential dwelling. Entrants are asked to specify from a range of selected Boral products, including clay bricks, concrete pavers, retaining walls, roof tiles, timber flooring, windows and bi-fold doors.

In 2010, the jury includes Tone Wheeler from Environa Studio, Paul Owen from Owen and Vokes, Nick Drougas from Metricon, Glenn Simpkin from Boral and jury chair Andrew Mackenzie, editor-in-chief of Architectural Review Australia magazine.

The entry pack can be downloaded at www.designaward.boral.com.au.

The 2010 Boral Design Award opens May 1 and closes September 30.

In the professional category, first prize is $20,000 and second prize is $10,000. In the student category, first prize is $4,000.
