February 28th is the cut off date for the federal government’s Kickstart program.
The Group Training Association recommends that construction industry employers who want to take advantage of the $3350 incentive on top of the $1500 commencement payment to put on an apprentice should contact a group training organization as soon as possible to be matched with the right candidate.
According to Group Training Association, businesses need to forward plan for the predicted upturn in 2014 and 2015 by training apprentices now. They also suggest hiring apprentices through a Group Training Organisation (GTO), to avoid the risk involved in hiring an apprentice directly.
The Kickstart scheme is timed to help employers tap into the pool of Year 12 students who have recently finished school.
