Stack bonded brickwork proves the highlight in a recently completed mixed façade home in Sydney’s North-west.

Owner/builder David Gremmo of Gremmo Homes used a combination of render, lightweight cladding and bricks for his 490 sqm four bedroom home.

Gremmo says the Boral Bricks Escura Smooth Face product in Choc Tan was chosen because it was the exact chocolate colour he had envisaged for the space in a refined super smooth texture.

"The bricks have a really clear, consistent colour with a ceramic-look finish that fits well in a contemporary setting," he says. "The bricks are also exposure graded for use in harsh or saline areas, so I didn’t need to think twice about using them in a pool environment."

The top end of the inground L-shaped pool is set against one of the brick walls, acting as a backdrop feature.

"The stack bond brick orientation, whereby each brick is stacked directly over the one below it, imparts a geometrical edgy look more suited to our home’s modern design than the regular stretcher brick bond usually seen," Gremmo says.

The home won the 2008 Masonry Contractors Association of NSW Best Single Dwelling Award for Residential Brickwork. The Bella Vista home has also won the 2008 Hills District Building and Design Awards for Best Custom Built Home ($550,000 to $750,000) and for Best Kitchen.
