Australia’s first biometric entry control device targeted at domestic use will soon be available after its Sydney-based developer, Bio Recognition Systems, developed the technology for exterior uses. BioLock+ gives home-owners the opportunity to purchase an Australian-designed system that utilises biometric technology to eliminate the need to carry and issue door keys. Containing a 400 MHz micro-controller in a waterproof zinc-aluminium alloy casing, BioLock+ will allow home-owners to store up to 100 different thumb or finger prints to control access to their property. The unit also has the ability to be connected to a network that allows the home-owner to remotely monitor and control access via a laptop.

While biometric entry control systems have previously been used in corporate indoor environments, this is the first time the technology has been available for external uses. The scanning technology reads the live layer of skin beneath the surface of the finger. Dryness, calluses, water, oil or dirt are not a problem as the radio frequency sensor technology ensures an accurate fingerprint. BioLock+ will retail for $995, plus installation (recommended) and will be available in electrical retail outlets and security installers.
