Fraser Motorcycles’ new store in Sydney’s west includes large expanses of glass that provide glimpses of the motorcycle design experience.

Designed by Dreamtime Australia Design, as well as housing a retail space, the showroom comprises a workshop, sales offices, function room, boardroom and restaurant.

The focal point of the showroom is the Dynamometer (Dyno) testing room, where motorcy cles are tested at full speed. Visible to showroom visitors through a 4.7m x 2.65m soundproof viewing window, when bikes aren’t being tested, the room shows off the latest release motorcycles on a revolving platform.

Reaching their top speed in the Dyno room, a high performance motorbike will generate sound levels in excess of 100 decibels, with Australian stan dards permit levels allowing only 50 decibels in a showroom environment.

With this in mind, it was decided the room should be encased in a glass box which had to be custom designed and acoustically engineered to bring the sound level down. This was achieved using two sep arate layers of 17.6 mm laminated glass with a 200 mm gap separating the two glass walls. Low E glass was also used in the showroom, reducing air-condi tioning needs by 30 per cent and UV transmission by 70 per cent.
