The Dowell ThermaLine window range from Boral is one of the major features of the ‘Odelle’ display home, built as part of the new Crace estate north of Canberra.

The four bedroom residence, Built by Shaw Living and designed by Tony Pike of Solar Cert Design, demonstrates how affordable housing can also include energy efficient design and high performance materials. The Dowell ThermaLine has contributed to the home’s high 6 star energy efficiency rating.

The home’s location of Crace is one of the first Australian suburbs to be developed with consideration of its climate change impacts. In synergy with this philosophy, Dowell ThermaLine recently received the 2012 Housing Industry Association (HIA) GreenSmart Product of the Year award.

“The home was designed to showcase a range of sustainable features, so we chose Dowell’s low energy thermally broken double glazed aluminium windows throughout the build,” says Shaw Living Director, Roger Poels.

“We selected Dowell ThermaLine products for their market leading U-values which reduce heat loss during winter and heat gain during summer.”

“Despite two of the four bedrooms being located along the frontage of the main road, the diversity in the Dowell ThermaLine range allowed us to create comfortable spaces which are quiet and private. A combination of large windows to the garden and high level windows in other areas enabled flexibility and successfully addressed the competing issues of privacy and light,” added Poels.

According to Warren Davison of Dowell Windows, “There is a misconception that energy efficient building products are inherently expensive. The Dowell ThermaLine range was developed to meet the building budget requirements of the residential market, offering excellent value for the high levels of energy performance.”

“The framing system also helps architects to meet new building codes, in line with the Nationwide Home Energy Rating Scheme (NatHERS),” advised Davison.
