Architecture and design firm, KANNFINCH recently planned and delivered a new centralised space for the IT Directorate of the NSW Department of Education and Communities.
Annabel Hammond, Jerry Goulis, Catriona Dunn and Alex Bingham from KANNFINCH collaborated on the new three level fit-out.
The building’s reception level hosts shared conference and training rooms and a large breakout area suitable for large gatherings for the five-hundred-plus organisation.
The two other levels are linked with a central double-storey breakout area connected by an open stair. The interconnecting stair provides a central orientation point, vertically and horizontally for the very large rectangular floor plates. The work groups are zoned by regularly spaced meeting and quiet pods.
"Being an educational IT directorate there were very specific technical requirements in the brief, such as the technology test labs and the numerous floor to ceiling white board walls, allowing for flexible and spontaneous think tank sessions," explained Business Development Manager, Annabel Hammond
"Sustainability initiatives were integrated throughout the planning and material selection, such as open plan work area oriented to the perimeter of the building, maximising natural light and less reliance on mechanical air. Wherever possible, green star rated furniture, fittings and equipment were specified."
