The largest commercial installation of mechanically polished concrete in Australia has been installed into the new $175 million Myer Customer Support Centre in the Docklands, Melbourne.
The 11,000sq m installation has caught the eye of international flooring experts with a nomination in the USA’s Concrete Construction ‘Polished Concrete Awards’.
The new floor delivers environmental benefits to the company by harnessing the thermal mass properties of the concrete and reducing heating costs, as well as decreasing their lighting costs due to the reflective surfaces of the new flooring solution.
Pro Grind’s unique process of dry, dustless grinding and diamond tooling, combined with the company’s advanced capillary crystallization process, has produced a superior surface in the new office, more durable and stain resistant than that of a standard polished concrete floor, with significant advantages in abrasion resistance.
Such benefits transfer to an increased lifecycle of the floor when compared to other flooring alternatives such as carpet, timber and epoxy coatings - despite high foot traffic throughout the Myer office.
The main challenge of the installation was to coordinate the works over the ten separate floors and work in with the other trades involved in the overall project. Due to Pro Grind’s unique installation process early on in the project, the flooring was instantly trafficable to the other trades people and required no rework on completion.
Project architects, BVN in Melbourne, were charged with creating a modern architectural space, their considered design, combined with the Pro Grind MPC floor, has now created a feeling of space and movement.
