AusSteel has broadened their offering to include TRUECORE® steel framing with the development of a completely engineered, fully designed steel building system.

The new system is based on providing an on-site product that carpenters can easily understand and trades can easily work with.  Lightweight, dimensionally stable, structurally consistent and straight, the designs, site plans and layouts of the AusSteel system replicate the efficiencies of timber frame and truss techniques.

From a fabricators perspective, the system also streamlines the process from quotation to design engineering, manufacturing, material handling and packaging for transport.

The expansion to include termite-free TRUECORE® steel framing is timely, with the distribution and demand for steel framing in the residential market growing rapidly over the last few years.

Introduced almost 50 years ago, steel framing is now widely used as an alternative to the more traditional timber frames. Many of Australia’s largest and most successful builders, manufacturers and building solutions companies now supply steel framing as standard as it is widely available and made in Australia, to Australian standards.

“It’s an exciting time to be involved with Light Gauge Steel (LGS),” says AusSteel General Manager APAC Simon Love. “We are seeing significant and rapid growth across many regions and it’s no secret that the largest residential builder in NSW now builds exclusively with steel.”

“Coming solely from a timber frame and truss background initially, we noticed significant gaps in the support, services and products that were readily available to the timber frame and truss industry, but not there for LGS manufacturers. To counter this, we developed and built a complete system for our own use, before quickly realising we had something that others would value as much as we did.”

The LGS system has a set-up cost lower than the cost of the more popular linear saws and offers engineering advantages that were not previously possible with timber wall frames.  This opens new doors for manufacturers, with its similarities to a timber set out foreshadowing a greater acceptance from builders.
