Numerous awards were handed out at this year’s 2013 Australian International Design Awards, presented by Good Design Australia.
This year, 66 products and serivces were awarded the coveted Design Award in recognition of innovation and design excellence.
Below are just some of the building-related winners.
Philips won four accolades at the awards for its SimplyGo oxygen system, TrueBlue apnea mask from Philips Healthcare, PerfectCare Aqua iron and the Antumbra lighting user interface panel.
Philips chief design officer Sean Carney says its design approach has always been to consider not only the user, but the context of use.
The Antumbra is a unique user interface panel, which is used for professional lighting and building control.
Formula Interiors’ shift partition has won a Design Award in the Architecture and Interiors Category.
Shift is a unique partition system featuring a fully demountable and reconfigurable construction. Designed and produced in Australia. It can be reconfigured many times with no waste or spare parts and is designed for disassembly.
Schneider Electric took an award for its advanced range of wall switches. Clipsal C-Bus eDLT is one of Australia’s most advanced wall switches designed for use in residential and commercial installations.
Schneider Electric sales director – partner business Geoff Timbs says the award reflects Schneider’s commitment to the Clipsal brand and its product range, reinforcing the company’s dedication to continuously develop and manufacture quality and innovative products.
Dyson swept the floor, receiving several awards across its range of appliances. The Airblade Tap was named Best in Category of Architectural and Interiors, a sure win with its ability to wash and dry hands with the same fitting.
The Dyson Airblade V hand dryers were recognised with a Good Design Mark in Architectural and Interiors.
Additionally, the Digital Slim – a cordless vacuum cleaner – and the new bladeless fan heater, AM05, took awards in the Domestic Appliances category.
The Tractile roofing system won the Design Award for Sustainability, as well as the Best in Category for Hardware and Building.
Queensland designed, the roofing system features an easy-to-use interlocking system and aesthetically pleasing solar panels. It won for its game-changing alternative to concrete roof tiles and existing solar panel units often considered and eyesore.
Good Design Australia managing director Brendon Gien said the Tractile roofing system stood out in terms of sustainability and environmental consideration, adding that environmental impact was clearly part of the design thinking for the product from materials choice, manufacturing, transportation and installation to the incorporation of solar panels and hot water pipes.
Impressions textured surface from Laminex Group won a Design Award in the Architecture and Interiors category. The decorative laminates with embossing deliver the look and feel of timber or stone.
Laminex Group general manager of marketing George Bej said it was a privilege for one of Laminex’s newest products to be awarded for its innovation and design excellence, and an honour for the Laminex Marketing and Design team to be recognised for their ongoing commitment to provide the market with innovative and modern product solutions.
Clark’s Epure Zone kitchen sink took an award in the Domestic Appliances Category. It was selected for offering real functional benefits to the user through leading edge and innovative design.
It recognises Epure Zone’s innovative engineering, which revolutionises food preparation, clean-up and storage. The versatile sink easily converts into a drainer, dish drying rack, colander and chopping board. It combines different levels of functionality and eliminates the need to reach into cupboards for kitchen essentials.
