In light of recent protests in Canberra by concerned citizen groups, there is obvious concern from Australians regarding the Federal Government's climate change policy.

In fact, a recent Newspoll* showed 89 per cent of Australians in favour of their local government increasing the amount of green space and canopy cover.

To address these issues in a structured forum, a collective of 'green' industry bodies are meeting at the Urban GreenScapes Symposium, with an aim to drive recognition of the importance of greener cities as part of Kyoto Mark II and carbon trading schemes.

Open to the public, the Urban GreenScapes Symposium 2009 will be held at the National Convention Centre in Canberra on 17 February, 2009. It will bring together all stakeholder groups with an interest in the environment and urban development, to position green-life and plants as part of the solution in the global warming debate.

The symposium will focus on three key areas; environment, health and well-being and urban planning. Through a host of acclaimed international speakers and

Australian experts, the symposium will drive home the benefits of green-life in urban spaces and create a stronger platform on which to engage government.
