The Building Designers Association of Victoria has been appointed as an Assessor Accrediting Organisation for the National Home Energy Rating Scheme (NatHERS).
Under NatHERS protocols, individuals undertaking thermal performance assessments must be accredited by a relevant accreditation body and BDAV has been appointed as an organisation with the knowledge and expertise to perform this role.
In late 2010, BDAV entered an agreement with Sustainability Victoria to manage the accreditation of both Thermal Performance Assessors (TPA) and Home Sustainability Assessors (HSA) in Victoria and this appointment of BDAV for NatHERS accreditation by the federal Department of Climate Change and Energy Efficiency (DCCEE) further demonstrates BDAV leadership in the sustainability space.
“The BDAV is delighted with this development, as it further demonstrates the importance of both the design profession being at the forefront of sustainability issues and the sector and organisational knowledge of the BDAV to assist and maintain the integrity of the energy rating sector”, said BDAV executive director, Brian Morison.
He said BDAV’s commitment to continuing professional development will ensure assessors are kept up-to-date with developments and emerging technology and materials.
“Under this appointment, taking into account specific regulatory or policy requirements unique to State and Territory jurisdictions, the BDAV will be able to offer accreditation support to assessors nationally and we look forward to providing our knowledge and expertise across Australia”, Morison said.
Through BDAV’s accrediting role, assessors will have great opportunities to establish networks and share knowledge with building designers.
‘Becoming an accrediting body will have benefits for existing BDAV members, and the Assessors who come on board through their accreditation”, said Morison.
