An Australian not-for-profit housing developer and a Brisbane based solar power company have joined forces to provide solar power systems to affordable housing developments across Brisbane.

In one of the first investments into renewable energy by a not-for-profit developer in Australia, the partnership between BHC and Future Sustainability will see three BHC commercial developments located throughout Brisbane, fitted with brand new solar systems commencing mid-April.

BHC’s Asset Manager Tim Lambert said not only will the partnership ensure their developments are producing clean renewable energy, it will also benefit residents by ensuring more money goes into the upgrading and refurbishment of the properties.

“Solar will reduce the common power outgoings for the building occupants whilst improving the Green Star rating of each site ensuring our developments are both socially and environmentally sustainable,” Lambert said.

“We very happy to be partnering with Future Sustainability on this project, ensuring we are making the most forward thinking decisions that are beneficial to both our residents and the industry.”

“Plans to provide a more sustainable way of living to residents have been in the pipeline since 2011 and both companies are pleased with the result”

Future Sustainability Director John Degotardi said the partnership reflects the viability of solar power in commercial buildings and they hope to continue to provide sustainable energy options for future BHC developments.

“The amount of carbon produced across the 15 year period will be reduced by over 255,000 kilograms, all while increasing the Green Star rating of the buildings,” he said.

The first three developments to receive the solar panels include Cardross Street in Yeerongpilly, Ashton Street in Camp Hill and Wolsby Street in Fortitude Valley. More developments will be added to the list over the coming months.
