Q: Describe the product — how does it work? In what applications can it be used in?

A: The Mountain Range is Boral Timber’s solid hardwood flooring range consisting of five species which support the contemporary trend for lighter tim bers — Messmate, Stringybark, New England Oak, Australian Beech and Flooded Gum. The Mountain Range is available in three different grades — a clean, subtle featured (Classic) grade, a moderately featured (Australiana) grade with natural variations, and a highly fea tured (Natural) grade. Mountain Range flooring timbers are offered in a solid 19 mm and 13 mm thickness.

Q: How is the product installed? Does it have any special installation require ments?

A: The 19 mm product is nailed down onto bearers and joists or to battens on concrete. This can be done by top nail ing or secret nailing. The 108 mm and 130 mm wide boards can also be secret nailed by using Boral Timber’s secret fix ing installation method, which prevents the visible appearance of nail heads on a floor’s surface. The 13 mm boards are glued down directly over concrete, existing timber, plywood or particle board flooring. For the best results, the old floor should be clean, dry and flat. The 13 mm thickness particularly suits ground floor renovations where it can be installed over a concrete slab or sec ond-storey refurbishments where the carpet has been pulled up and the sub floor is still in place.

Q: What is the product made of?

A: All products in the Mountain Range are made in Australia from quality kiln dried Australian species.

Q: Is the design new or have any unique or innovative features?

A: The 19 mm thickness now offers an 85 mm cover width, which has been developed to replace the popular 80 mm cover width. The new 85 mm cover width means that fewer boards are required to complete a project and allows for faster installation and consis tency across the full range of Boral Timber’s 19 mm flooring. Delivering more floor per board, the new cover width also allows for an improved sup ply of popular species while simultane ously supporting sustainable use.

Boral Timber has also improved the profile of its 19 mm solid strip boards, resulting in one consistent profile — BTF2. This enables the flooring to be used in a wider variety of design appli cations. With multi-directional installa tion capability, the tongue fits into the groove both side-on and head-on, mak ing it easier to achieve numerous designs. The new profile also enables a random board width pattern to be achieved — a design particularly popular in European homes. Additionally, the thicker wear layer allows boards to be sanded multiple times.

Q: Does the design have any world- first features or a patent?

A: The Mountain Range has a sought after set of species and grades that are popular in Australia as well as other parts of the world.

Q: What accreditation has the prod uct been awarded? What key industry standards does it meet or exceed?

A: The Mountain Range meets Australian Standards.

Q: Is the product environmentally friendly? If so, how?

A: Timber is the only fully natural and renewable building product available on the market today. Boral Timber sources its timber from Australian Forestry Standard (AFS) certified forests — the only forest certification to meet Australian Standard AS 4708-2007. Boral Timber has also just announced Chain of Custody certification for its hardwoods, demonstrating its commit ment to securing a sustainable future for Australia’s natural resources.

Q: How does the product compare to similar products?

A: The Mountain Range offers an array of natural Australian species ranging from light browns to light red in three different grades, providing a choice for all design projects.
