The shortlist for the 2008 Australian International Design Awards has been announced. Shortlisted products in the Housing & Building award include:

  • Termaview’s Smart Skirting, a removable skirting board designed primarily as a timber pest (termite) inspection and baiting system
  • Dux Hot Water’s Airoheat, which converts free energy in the air into hot water through patented high efficiency heat exchangers
  • Caroma Dorf’s Profile 5 Toilet Suite with Integrated Hand Basin, an integrated dual-flush push button and spout combination designed to lower total bathroom water usage by allowing water to be used twice
  • Methven's Satinjet Tahi, a water and energy saving shower system. The drencher is placed at the top of the spine and emits a waterfall of 3,000 droplets of water per second, but consumes only 9 litres of water per minute
  • Methven’s Satinjet Kiri Wall Shower, a single function unit with water saving Twin-jet technology delivering 3,000 droplets per second
  • Telezygology’s FutureWall, a flexible and moveable partitioning, glass shop front and cladding solution by providing for the integration of storage systems, furniture and an extensive range of finishes and panel materials
  • Electrolux’s Illuminated Induction Cooktop, which uses electromagnetic fields to transfer energy to the cooking pot, which then converts into heat
  • Skope Glascia luxury towel warmer, which is set in chrome-plated recycled aluminium allowing maximum heat transfer. Each safety glass panel contains an invisible element for warming
  • the Onga WaterSwitch, an automatic rainwater controller utilised in dual water source systems where rainwater is given priority for everyday applications such as in the washing machine and toilets
  • Solatube’s Daylighting System

Other companies which have been shortlisted for the awards in other categories include Miele and St George Appliances. The awards are judged on a range of criteria, including innovation, visual/emotional appeal, functionality, quality and manufacture, human factors: ergonomics, semantics and safety, environmental sustainability and presentation/packaging. Winners will be announced May 30, 2008.
