A nationwide search is on for a leading developer to take on a landmark project which is expected to help make Karratha a city of more than 50,000.

LandCorp will release, to a preferred proponent, up to five parcels of prime land in Karratha’s city centre and 168.4ha of residential land at the coastal suburb of Mulataga.

The major development opportunity will result in the revitalisation of the town centre as well as the building of a master-planned 2,500 home coastal community.

Regional Development and Lands Minister Brendon Grylls says the project, part of the Government’s ‘Pilbara Cities’ vision, is the first step in creating a major North-West city.

“The successful developer will have the opportunity to help shape the future of Karratha with developments that will attract international attention,” Grylls says.

“We are looking for a major developer with the ability to deliver a vibrant and attractive city centre as well as a high-quality waterfront estate to include cafes, tourism and shopping precincts and a variety of residential products and recreational facilities.”

LandCorp is looking to work with the private sector to rapidly accelerate the rate at which development occurred.

The proposed Stage 1 Mulataga residential estate will offer up to 2,500 home buyers a range of housing options and recreational spaces overlooking Nickol Bay.

Ranging from 0.35ha to 1.5ha, the five parcels of land in the heart of Karratha will provide a medium density mixed-use opportunity for commercial, retail and entertainment outlets with residential apartments or short-stay accommodation on the upper floors.
