Winner of the Boral Design Awards 2010, Courtyard House by Aidan Murphy and Aaron Peters (Cox Rayner Architects/Kerry Hill Architects)
Architects, building designers and architectural students will need to enter the 6th annual Boral Design Award competition by a submission deadline of March 1.
This year’s conceptual design challenge asks entrants to adaptively repurpose an existing city fringe property into a medium density residential or mixed-use development.
There are three cash prizes on offer, totalling $34,000, to reward the professional, emerging professional and student category winners.
“This year we have asked that concepts preserve 50 per cent of the building fabric and incorporate a mix of Boral products that embraces the passive design potential and overall strengths of each material,” said Glenn Simpkin, Boral divisional marketing manager.
“Given the urban setting, acoustic privacy, natural daylight penetration, cross ventilation and facilities that allow for the development of community are some of the key features that a successful scheme might demonstrate.”
The Awards entry pack, floor plans, contextual site photos and CAD drawings can be downloaded directly from the Boral website.
Winners will be awarded from a shortlist of finalists selected by the Awards jury, with an announcement event to be held in Melbourne on March 29.
