Melbourne's Sebel and Citigate Albert Park, the Holiday Inn in Brisbane and the Sydney Harbour Marriott are among the first hotels in Australia to receive environmental performance ratings under the NABERS scheme.

Mirvac's Sebel and Citigate Albert Park has received a NABERS energy rating of 3.5 stars and a NABERS water rating of 4.5 stars. Mirvac's The Sebel Cairns Hotel in Queensland achieved an energy rating of 2.5 and a water rating of 2.5.

The GPT Group, as fund manager and joint owner with APPF of The Holiday Inn in Brisbane and the owner of Four Points by Sheraton in Sydney, has used NABERS energy and water tools to rate its hotels.

"The NABERS ratings will run in line with our current operational sustainability strategy and enhance the future value of the assets through lowering energy use, improving the environment for guests and staff and enhancing the hotels marketability," says Steve Carroll, asset manager with The GPT Group.

The Sydney Harbour Marriott Hotel has achieved a 3 star NABERS energy rating and a 2.5 star water rating. Marriott International is in the process of having all of its Marriott Hotels in Australia certified with NABERS as part of its Environmentally Conscious Hospitality Operations (ECHO) program.
