A surge in demand for Glem and Emilia cooking appliances worldwide has led to increased production at the Glem Gas factory in Modena, Italy. Glem has employed an additional 80 staff to meet the manpower requirements and has also commenced Saturday production.
“There has been some pressure from different quarters to consider production in low cost countries such as China or Turkey but it has not been something we have considered,” explained David Gilmore, general manager, Glem Gas Australasia.
“Glem is a very Italian brand and the history in Modena is very important to us. In Australia in particular, retailers and consumers respond well to the fact that Glem and Emilia cooking appliances are European and in particular, Italian,” said Mr Gilmore.
“Glem Gas is pleased to be expanding its workforce during a time when many manufacturers are being forced to implement redundancies,” he said.
“Glem has been manufacturing cookers for more than 50 years and as brand awareness in international markets continues to grow, the company will continue to expand.”
