Sound insulation has contributed to Evoke Design Group’s award winning 8 star designed home being built in South Fremantle in Western Australia.
The home took out the HIA 2010 GreenSmart Design Concept Award.
Evoke Design director, Steve Kinchin, says Kingspan’s Air-Cell Glareshield was instrumental in helping Evoke to achieve the coveted 8 star thermal efficiency rating.
"Insulation is the quiet achiever in energy efficiency. Using Air-Cell insulation dramatically reduces heat loss and gain, and really boosted the thermal ratings of the walls," he says.
Passive solar design measures combined with environmental features include a grey water system, low VOC paints, a 10,000L rainwater tank and a 1.5 kW photovoltaic (PV) system on the roof help to cut heating and cooling costs by 75 per cent, compared to the average West Australian 3.5 star rated home.
The home was described as aesthetically pleasing, warm and inviting by the judges. The design and rammed earth thermal walls penetrating the main part of the house was also credited for its standout appearance.
