The University of Adelaide's new flagship building Innova2 has been named the 2012 South Australian Development of the Year in the Property Council of Australia / Rider Levett Bucknall Innovation and Excellence Awards.

Designed by DesignInc, the development was nominated by Hindmarsh Construction Australia.

The Innovation and Excellence Awards celebrate innovation and leading practice within the property development and investment industries.

Property Council of Australia's South Australian executive director Nathan Paine said: "The $100 million state of the art Innova21 building offers world-class student and teaching facilities and showcases the University's commitment to ecologically-sustainable development.”

"The development is the first education building in Australia to be accredited with a 6 Star Green Star Design rating under the Green Star Design Rating Education v1 Tool by the Green Building Council Australia, signifying 'World Leadership' in environmentally sustainable design.

"Innova21 must be congratulated for winning the state's top property award, demonstrating South Australia's commitment to environmentally sustainable development within the nation's property industry."

After winning the state's top property award, Innova21 will now vie for the coveted Australian Development of the Year Award at the 2012 national awards.

South Australian Director of Rider Levett Bucknall, Stephen Knight, says all South Australian finalists in the 2012 national awards demonstrates the real success our state has in terms of operational efficiency, design and return on investment.

"Rider Levett Bucknall is proud to be associated with an awards program that displays the best developments in the Australian property industry, recognising their innovation and excellence," Knight says.
