Insulation Australasia (IA) has been admitted as a full member of the Australian Sustainable Built Environment Council (ASBEC).
The peak body of key building industry organisations committed to a sustainable built environment in Australia, the ASBEC consists of industry and professional associations, non-government organisations and government observers who are involved in the planning, design, delivery and operation of the built environment, and are concerned with the social and environmental impacts of this sector.
IA is a product agnostic industry association representing Australian and New Zealand insulation manufacturers, wholesalers, importers, fabricators and installers as a single voice to government, the public and the building and construction industry. The IA represents virtually all insulation product types currently available in the Trans-Tasman region.
IA chairman Scott Gibson says IA gaining full membership of ASBEC provides the ideal forum for the association to engage with diverse groups involved in the built environment to constructively discuss energy efficiency issues, as well as reaffirm the unique contribution of insulation to the Australian built environment.
According to Gibson, one of the key drivers of IA activities since its inception in late 2011 has been to restore consumer confidence in insulation’s ability to deliver sustainable energy efficiency gains and energy cost savings.
To achieve this goal, the insulation industry must make a meaningful contribution to the research and development of energy efficiency initiatives, industry standards and the promotion of product certification and installer training.
The recent launch of IA’s 3rd party certification scheme for its members’ products and services, along with its successful application for funding to the Construction & Property Services Industry Skills Network (CPSISC) for a national installer training scheme are two early examples of the association’s policy resolve.
Gibson added that IA would also be pursuing other generic insulation policy initiatives and would be making a pre-2013 Federal election submission to the three major political parties shortly.
