An independent audit of the draft Ku-ring-gai Town Centres Plan shows it would assist in providing an additional 5,000 homes over the next 20 years, on top of the 5,000 already approved since 2005.

The analysis, together with advice from the Ku-ring-gai Planning Panel and Department of Planning, will inform decisions on whether to reject, amend or approve the Ku-ring-gai Town Centres Plan.

"The fact is that Sydney will need an extra 636,000 homes to house an extra 1.1 million people by 2031," says Planning minister, Kristina Keneally.

"The Metropolitan Strategy identified that 10,000 of these new homes would be located in the Ku-ring-gai local government area."

Keneally said that the Treadstone report was developed after consultation with both the development industry and Ku-ring-gai council.
