The 2011 Department of Health and Ageing National Lifestyle Housing for Seniors Award will be presented on the Gold Coast in November.

Master Builders will partner with the Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing in sponsoring the 2011 Awards, which acknowledge builders who deliver high quality, practical and liveable family homes that are adaptable to the changing lifestyles and needs of older Australians.

Master Builders Australia Chief Executive, Wilhelm Harnisch said, "The Awards this year recognise the growing awareness and acceptance of residential dwellings that provide a range of lifestyle options for older Australians.

"The Australian population is ageing and is bringing with it new challenges in the delivery of better design, appropriate construction of new homes and the refurbishment of existing homes that better suits older Australians so that they can live independently for longer and not have to move to residential aged care facilities."

"The need to provide a broader range of age-friendly housing designs and building options is urgent and cannot be met by simply following standard design practices of the past.

"This year's Awards will provide the opportunity to showcase the ongoing efforts by industry in delivering innovative design approaches to meeting the lifestyle needs of older Australians."

Harnisch said, "There will be two Award categories: purpose-built owner-occupied dwellings including townhouses and apartments, and the other covering existing owner-occupied homes which have been purposely extended or modified."

Master Builders invites builders to nominate their project for the 2011 National Lifestyle Housing for Seniors Award.
