A man has died after a fall from a crane at a construction site in Melbourne’s CBD this morning.
WorkSafe Victoria reports that the incident happened on the corner of Lonsdale and Elizabeth streets.
The man, 59, fell about 35 metres from a crane platform on the site.
The ABC reported that the accident occurred at the site where protests against Grocon Construction were staged in August last year.
Workers at the scene of the accident and at other Grocon sites across Melbourne have stopped work as a sign of respect for the dead man.
WorkSafe investigators are currently onsite and undertaking a full investigation.
