The Property Industry Foundation (PIF) is aiming to raise more than $300,000 as part of this year's National Hard Hat Day campaign taking place on 14 June, 2013.
The National Hard Hat Day (NHHD) campaign is the property and construction industry's workplace-giving program that asks people to donate an hour or more of their pay to help fund building projects and youth counsellors supporting young people at risk.
"There are over 44,000 homeless young people across Australia, an increase of over 8,000 in under ten years,” reported Rosemary Smithson, PIF's National Chief Executive Officer.
“The property industry has embraced this issue with their growing support for our charity, providing vital funds towards supporting disadvantaged kids," she said.
PIF will collect donations throughout May, June and July from businesses across New South Wales, Victoria and Queensland with 14 June marked as the key campaign day for offices to hold awareness events.
Proceeds will go towards a new PIF House in Western Sydney.
The PIF House in Central Sydney, established in 2012 has seen over $1million donated to provide 8 homeless youths with the training and accommodation to obtain employment in the property and construction industry.
Last year's National Hard Hat Day also helped raise over $300,000 for a range of charity projects including Uniting Care Burnside in Dubbo, Mission Australia in Wagga Wagga, Salvation Army Youth Link in Western Sydney and the Lighthouse Foundation in Victoria.
