Climat is developing its own technology which could decrease energy use in commercial air-conditioning units.
The two-and-a-half-year project involves research and development, as well as two field trials.
The company is partnering with the University of South Australia’s Sustainable Energy Centre where seven engineers and technicians are assisting with the project.
"Our technology produces chilled water similar to current systems, but at much greater energy efficiency," says Adam Percy, general manager of Climat Commercial.
"In new buildings it could provide a 50 per cent to 100 per cent improvement on the world’s current best technology. For existing buildings the energy benefit is 25 per cent to 50 per cent.
"There is also a major occupational health and safety advantage with our technology as it minimises the risk of legionnaires’ disease, which is still a major problem in energy efficient commercial buildings."
During the past three years, the company has been funding its own research and development into the technology.
Climat was awarded $1,573,048 in 2009 from the Australian Government’s Climate Ready program to help develop its Penguin Water Chilling System.
