Probuild has begun construction on the $300 million redevelopment of Highpoint Shopping Centre in Melbourne’s west this month.
The centre will include the region’s first David Jones department store and approximately 100 additional retailers. There will be 1,000 new car spaces and an upgraded ring road to improve traffic flow.
ESD initiatives will see the builder using a high proportion of recycled materials, energy efficient lighting and natural ventilation.
The project will employ up to several hundred Probuild and subcontractor employees during construction.
The redevelopment, expected to be completed in the first half of 2013, will see Highpoint Shopping Centre grow by more than 30,000 sqm to 156,000 square metres.
The national building company has completed every major stage of expansion at the centre since the early nineties.
Probuild managing director Phil Mehrten said the company was delighted to be involved with the project.
