Qualicoat is an organisation committed to maintaining and promoting the quality of coating on aluminium and its alloys for architectural applications.

To determine whether or not a coating meets a customer's requirements, the results need to be measurable against technical specifications. Qualicoat works on behalf of customers who have their products coated in defining comprehensive quality requirements.

In the past month, a number of architectural and building developments have referenced Qualicoat, insisting that all powder coated materials be sourced from licensed powder coaters.

The Qualicoat licensing system involves NATA approved inspectors performing random audits twice a year on powder coating processes, facilities and testing procedures. This verifies the entire powder coating process, from the chemical pre-treatment to the application and curing of the powder.

Qualicoat is administered by the Australasian Institute of Surface Finishing (AISF) and is fully endorsed by powder manufacturers Dulux and Interpon.

In the past year, over 10,000 Qualicoat Specification Guideline brochures have been sent to architects, specifiers, fabricators and builders across the country, explaining how to specifiy Qualicoat and what benefits it provides.

"As Qualicoat specification becomes common practise, builders need to know which applicators are licensed. We strongly advise that builders visit www.qualicoat.com.au and enter the Member Directory for a national list of approved coaters," says president of Qualicoat Australia, Colin Brewster.
