Schiavello has been acknowledged at the Master Builders 2012 Apprentice Awards, winning two awards at the ceremony.

The company was awarded the Apprentice Employer of the Year, Brian Fitzmaurice Memorial Award for the ongoing contribution to training and apprenticeships.

Schiavello apprentice, Fabian Guseli was also awarded Apprentice of the Year for offsite construction (joinery) based on his skills and ability to master his trade with a mature approach and excellent communication and leadership skills.

Schiavello has developed an onsite training facility for its 50 carpentry and joinery apprentices, with the company employing 80 apprentices over a variety of trades in total.

The training facility improves the connection between the on and off the job training with a teacher provided by Victoria University. Some of the hands on training includes site set out, wall framing, roof construction, concreting, stairs, cabinets, windows and door frames; with the opportunity to train while completing community projects.

“We place a strong importance on the training of our apprentices and it’s great to be formally recognised for our commitment to skills development,” Schiavello Managing Director, Peter Schiavello says.
