SKYShades has unveiled integrated Organic Photovoltaic (OPV) technology developed by Konarka Inc at a Business Climate International seminar. SKYShades and Konarka entered into a MOU earlier this year to share technologies to integrate OPV thin film into tension fabric materials.

The working panel on demonstration was 0.02 sqm in size and produced 1.6 volts of electricity positioned under a set of lights. In direct sunlight, the panel could produce around 6 volts of electricity.

SKYShades is currently undertaking a project at Orlando International Airport, installing integrated car park canopies over 1,000 car bays, which would see 17,000 sqm of thin film converting solar energy into clean, green electricity, which initially is expected to yield over $220,000 per annum once sold into the local grid.
