A revamped soundproofing tile, made as a compressed straw fibre panel, has contributed to the speedy construction of a performing arts auditorium at Queensland’s Upper Coomera Primary School.

Sunshine Coast company, QClad, installed a record-breaking one hundred square metres of ceiling in 45 minutes, with a complete finish, including roof perlins.

It had to be ready for the 2007 school year.

A serious shortage of tradesmen slowed progress and Site Manager for JM Kelly Project Builders, Michael O’Connor, said it had been difficult to find carpenters, electricians, draftsmen and steel fixers however months of dry weather has assisted with progress.

The $4 million job involved construction of a main auditorium of just under 1000 m2, a music block and an amenities building.

Gold Coast City Council provided the School with a $800, 000 grant and intends to use the new auditorium for some future council functions.

JM Kelly’s Project Manager is Lester Scott and all consultancy is being done in-house by Project Services.
