According to framing company, Steel Frame Solutions, key parts of regional South Australia are continuing to ride a housing boom, despite the current economic downturn.

Driven by low interest rates, the First Home Owners Grant and burgeoning local industries, cities on the Spencer Gulf, Eyre Peninsula and in the far north are a hive of housing activity.

Steel Frame Solutions has recently completed 50 houses in Whyalla with another 50 planned, 32 in Roxby Downs and a further 85 are earmarked for Port Lincoln.

Mark Eckermann, business development manager for BlueScope Steel, says this positive growth is reflective of the benefits of building with steel. A house frame made from steel remains straight and true, is resistant to termites and is non-combustible.

Steel is also one of the most recycled materials and, according to Eckermann, all steel made by BlueScope Steel includes recycled steel in its manufacture.
