With demand for sustainable housing on the rise, the Institute for Sustainable Futures has created series of online videos to help equip tradespeople with the basic skills and knowledge needed to adapt to increasing demand for green practices.
The Trade Secrets — Skills for the Future series was launched this month, the eleven videos aiming to provide clear, practical and visual teaching resources to cover all the 'must-knows' for builders, plumbers and electricians who have had little exposure to formal training in sustainable practices.
The content is free, and can be watched on either computer or smartphone at www.tradesecrets.org.au.
Trainers can also freely download the videos for use in existing training or Continuing Professional Development courses
Complementary fact sheets summarise the take home messages and provide links to further resources and training.
The videos were developed by the Institute for Sustainable Futures and the Dusseldorp Skills Forum through consultation with various trade industries.
The Institute’s project director, Caitlin McGee explains the challenge presented by this project was to “condense all the information into simple, digestible chunks of video content that would keep viewers engaged; but with help from some of the country’s leading trade experts, I think we’ve succeeded!”
Funding for the films was provided by the NSW Office of Environment and Heritage, the NSW Office of Fair Trading and the Kirby Foundation. To view or access the videos visit the Trade Secrets online portal at http://www.tradesecrets.org.au/
