The City of Melbourne and Sustainable Melbourne Fund are hosting information sessions on how consultants and contractors to the commercial building sector can capture the opportunities created by environmental upgrade finance under the city’s 1200 Buildings Program.

Sustainable Melbourne Fund chief executive Scott Bocskay said the sessions had been developed to equip consultants and contractors with a working understanding of environmental upgrade agreements and how the innovative financial mechanism could benefit their business.

“We want to ensure that the retrofit market understands the unprecedented commercial opportunity the change to Victorian legislation presents. Industry needs to be informed about how to reap the benefits and leverage this new financial mechanism to develop retrofit projects and boost revenue,” Bocskay said.

The two hour session will provide guidance on navigating the application process and insight into the 1200 Buildings Program, clarify details surrounding the financial mechanism, offer consultants and contractors a networking opportunity with their peers and include question and answer time with the program administrators.

Bocskay said the sessions would cover the key benefits of environmental upgrade finance and how to explain these to commercial building owners, including how owners could open up additional building cash flows by sharing retrofit costs and benefits with their tenants.

“These information sessions will provide consultants and contractors with valuable information their clients need to know about financing a retrofit through this mechanism, with guidance on the project development process, how the mechanism works and what makes a project eligible for funding,” he said.

The sessions are being offered at the Melbourne Town Hall Media Presentation Suite on Thursday 9 February from 8.00am—10.00am, Tuesday 28 February from 10.30am—12.30pm and Wednesday 14 March from 2.00pm—4.00pm.
