The Sustainable Planning Act 2009 (SPA) will replace the Integrated Planning Act 1997 on 18 December, Queensland's minister for Infrastructure and Planning, Stirling Hinchliffe, has announced.
"Since the Act was passed in Parliament on 16 September, the state government has undergone extensive consultation with stakeholders and representative bodies," Hinchliffe says.
"In little over two months, more than 1,600 people have attended more than 34 training workshops about the new Act which includes the Queensland Planning Provisions (QPPs) and QPlan."
These workshops targeted councils, state agencies and industry and advised on changes to expect with the new legislation and QPPs.
QPPs introduce common planning definitions and terms that are flexible enough to apply across all local government planning schemes, and will provide more certainty for the community about development in their area.
The new Sustainable Planning Regulations, the proclamation and the transitional arrangements are available online, to allow councils to prepare their organisations for the commencement of the new Act.
